The CHLPI Team in August 2024 welcomed to the ranks three new clinical fellows who will contribute their expertise and passion to the work of the two clinics nested within the Center for Health and Policy Innovation.
Akif Khan and Kristen McEnroe join the Food Law and Policy Clinic, and Zeinab Bakhiet joins the Health Law and Policy Clinic.
Zeinab Bakhiet joined the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation as a Clinical Fellow with the Health Law and Policy Clinic in August 2024. She previously worked as a child health policy researcher at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy and with several community-based organizations in Houston and Chicago on issues related to health, housing, economic development, food access, and community violence. She advocates for an expansive and holistic view of health and wellness and is particularly interested in using art, community organizing, and restorative justice to advance racial equity. Additionally, she is a certified mediator and has conducted pro bono mediations through the Center for Conflict Resolution.
During law school, Zeinab was a capital habeas intern with the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Texas and an intern with the Incarcerated Survivors Program, a joint initiative between Ascend Justice and the Women’s Justice Institute. She served as the president of Northwestern Law’s Student Mental Health Alliance and co-founded the International JD Support Group. She received Northwestern Law’s Service Award, given by the graduating class to the student who has shown the greatest dedication and commitment to public service and the practice of law.
Zeinab holds a JD from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and a BA in Public Health Studies from Johns Hopkins University.
Kristen McEnroe joined the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC) in August 2024 as a Clinical Fellow. Kristen returns to FLPC after working with the clinic while pursuing her J.D. Her portfolio currently focuses on strengthening international food donation policies and advancing Food is Medicine initiatives. Kristen is passionate about developing a food system that ensures all people have access to safe, affordable, and nutritious food. Kristen received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in May 2024 and her B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Delaware in December 2019.
Akif joined the Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC) in August 2024 as a Clinical Fellow. Akif is most passionate about legal and policy work focused on waste reduction, resource circularity, and environmental, social, and economic sustainability. His current portfolio at FLPC focuses on bolstering collaborative strategies to mitigate food waste both domestically and internationally.
Akif received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2024, with specializations in Environmental Law and International and Comparative Law. During law school, Akif worked as a summer intern at the UCLA Emmett Institute on Climate Change & the Environment, as a summer intern at the California Air Resources Board, as a litigation intern at the Natural Resources Defense Council, as an extern at Our Children’s Trust, and as a research assistant for both the UCLA Promise Institute for Human Rights and the UCLA Resnick Center for Food Law & Policy. He received his B.A. in Comparative Literature and B.S. in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine in 2021.
