On October 17th, CHLPI Clinical Instructor Sarah Downer will present at the New England Library Association 2016 Annual Conference on the legal implications of using library space for community events and programs. Community use of municipal space, like libraries, is a great way to expand access to affordable, safe space for active recreation and exercise in communities with few other resources. Libraries that open up to the public after hours can win more support from their communities, benefit those who don’t have another indoor space for play or exercise, and ultimately attract new patrons. CHLPI will draw on years of experience working with communities in this area to help librarians understand the key considerations involved in opening their doors, from risk management to the nuts and bolts of drafting an agreement to share their space.
